Picture this: you’re standing on an ocean-front bluff, with sparkling sea in front of you, Mediterranean-style villas and lush gardens hugging the hillside behind, and palm trees swaying in the soft breeze. Hmmm, you wonder, am I vacationing on the coast of Spain or Italy? No, you’re still stateside – you’re at Bacara Resort & Spa, on the sun-drenched central coast of California, and as you relax and spend some time here, you’ll discover the transporting sense of place that is Bacara.

It Takes a Village
Nestled between the Pacific Ocean and Santa Ynez Mountains, Bacara Resort & Sap sprawls over 78 breathtaking acres on the Santa Barbara coast. Separate Spanish-Colonial-style villas (one-, three- and four-stories), with clusters of guestrooms and suites in each one, are sprinkled throughout the well-kept property, creating an intimate Mediterranean village feel. Built in 2000 with laid-back luxury in mind, Bacara incorporates design elements such as creamy stucco arches and columns, colorful tile work, terracotta floors, clay roofs and intricate wrought iron.

Architectural Attention
Bacara project designer, internationally recognized architect Robert Glazier, AIA, (with Hill Glazier Architects when Bacara was built; now HKS Hill Glazier Studio) says, “The exterior is built in the Spanish Colonial style that’s seen throughout Santa Barbara. We paid great attention to selection of materials and the design of the exteriors, including unique architectural features such as windows in various sizes, arches in both half-round and elliptical shapes, and hand-troweled stucco walls, with a slight variation in color on each building, so that Bacara appears as if it had been built over time.”

Glazier adds that in order for the tile roofs to retain the look of other historic Spanish Colonial buildings in Santa Barbara, a clay roofing company was employed to produce special tiles that appear handmade. He also emphasizes that the site plan and footprint were created by another architect and refined and approved by the California Coastal Commission.

Serene Scene
All this attention to detail shows, but Bacara is not a showoff. The resort exudes a quiet elegance. Yes, Bacara may be a knockout, but it’s not just a pretty face. Scratch the beautiful surface, and you’ll find a warm and welcoming vibe and appreciation of place. The resort’s design takes advantage of the mild Mediterranean climate with view-filled outdoor hallways, and each guestroom and suite has a private balcony or patio, showcasing ocean, garden or mountain scenes.

Meander along the purposeful but picturesque pathways between buildings and discover a surprise around every corner – ah-inspiring views, gurgling fountains, crackling fireplaces, cozy seating areas and flickering candles – perfect places to relax and recharge. Rustic, natural materials and subtle earth tones add to the sense of calm.

It’s no wonder that in-the-know locals and guests from all over the planet seek out this serene retreat for its stunning setting and timeless beauty. Whether you’re standing on that sun-splashed bluff or kicking back on your own private patio, the natural and man-made beauty of Bacara come together to create a warm embrace of vacation paradise.

No matter if you drive, fly, or hop a train to Bacara, once you’re on the grounds we’ll take care of the transportation. The resort’s fleet of chauffeured golf carts is available day and night to help make your stay even more enjoyable. Golf carts can take guests from check-in to their rooms, lead them on tours of the property, and shuttle relaxed revelers from the restaurants and event venues after they’ve had few too many.

The 78 acres of Bacara property are great for long seaside strolls and hikes, but come nighttime, walking the hills in heels can be a bit more activity than most guests plan for their night. A quick call for a pick-up is the solution.

Read what some of our previous guests have said about their Bacara golf-cart experiences:

“I also love how they sweep you up in a golf cart to take you to your room. Such a treat. I love riding in golf carts. Love to feel the air through my hair.” – Carmen L., Pacific Palisades, CA

“The grounds are pretty hilly so for a girl in heels dressed up for her bday dinner, the golf cart service is the way to go.” – Laura H., San Diego, CA

“We are then driven to our room in a golf cart, the driver told us about all the restaurants, spa, pool, best local walks. Great start.” – Jeff T. Las Vegas, NV

With exceptional privacy and a location that is less than two hours north of Los Angeles, it’s no wonder
that over the years celebrities have chosen Bacara as the backdrop of their weddings. Here’s a peak at
the details of some of Hollywood’s chicest Santa Barbara Weddings:

Sally Pressman and David Rogers, September 17, 2011

The “Army Wives” star became the real-life wife of “Cougar Town” actor David Rogers on a bluff
overlooking the Pacific ocean. The wedding party consisted of eleven bridesmaids, 10 groomsmen, a
ring-bearer, flower girl and the couple’s dog Sophie, who walked down the aisle wearing a flower collar.

Fergie and Josh Duhamel: Vow renewal ceremony, January 10, 2010

Just one year after their wedding, the singer-actor duo jumped on a helicopter and flew from Los
Angeles to Santa Barbara for a vow renewal ceremony at the ultra-private Bacara resort. The couple’s 15
minute vow renewals were followed by a private dinner at Bacara’s award winning Miro restaurant.

Landon Donovan and Bianca Kajlich, December 31, 2006

Bacara’s ballroom was transformed with votive candles and white flowers for the wedding reception
of this soccer player and actress. The couple shared a romantic New Year’s kiss at midnight and guests
were treated to late-night In ‘N Out Burgers and karaoke.

Travis Barker and Shanna Moakler, October 30, 2004

The former Miss USA and Blink 182 drummer opted for wedding based on their favorite movie, The
Nightmare Before Christmas. Moakler walked down the aisle in a traditional white ball gown that
was accented with a bold black sash and a black net hat. Their reception was held in Bacara’s Spanish
colonial ballroom.

Jennie Garth and Peter Facinelli, January 20, 2001

Following their traditional Roman Catholic wedding ceremony at a nearby church, Garth and Facinelli
invited their 210 guests to Bacara to dine on chicken, prawns and risotto that was served by candle light.
The meal was topped off with the cutting of a five-tier, red rose covered wedding cake.
